Pair of American (possible Pennsylvania) early Ninteenth Century Novelty Library storage boxes. They are made with mahogany and parcel gilt, the front formed as a run of leather bound books, with compartmented spines and lettered in gilt Roman numerals I-VII and VIII-XIV. Central vertical slide conceals the lock and working key is present. These are superbly constructed and designed suggesting one of the top early American makers. The interiors are vacant and the boxes are very useful and beautiful.
